Garlands

Ring a ring of roses…. or ivy and mistletoe…. or fir twiglets and plastic fruits…. Garlands of all lengths and colors are an integral part of Christmas. Authentic floral garland designs make a colorful, scented change from the usual plastic or silk artificial Christmas garlands, but these are not always practical to use.

Garlands today are not the plain lengths of greenery of yore. Apart from an ordinary old-fashioned Christmas garland, you can purchase colorful, scented ones that may be sued at other times of the year, too.

Foliage for Christmas wreaths and garland designs may be real or artificial; however, you may also use other materials to make your garland. It is fashionable to use an artificial Christmas garland to cover a thick foam ring into which leaves, fruits, or other decorations may also be pressed.

Garlands or wreaths traditionally, are hung on the door of houses to attract good luck to the home. A Christmas garland, and wreaths, however, has several other uses. A Christmas tinsel garland, for instance, would make a great table centerpiece; simply place it on the edge of a plate, and pile up the centre with fresh fruit. Christmas garlands may also decorate occasional tables, around a collection of scented night-lights in glass containers.

You can use ribbon as garland on Christmas trees, instead of tinsel, and co-ordinate it with the wreaths and the rest of the decorations, to impart a sense of continuity. Alternatively, you can have a Christmas tree garland with specific ornaments attached to it; and this will solve your tree decorating problems.

If you have something like a magnolia garland and wreath for Christmas, or perhaps a set with bougainvillea or violets, wisteria, or baby roses instead, they can be used to decorate the house at times other than at Christmas.

Pre-lit artificial Christmas garlands are another option; several of these, arranged end-to-end, can give a dulcet glow to a room when the main lights are switched off.

The question “where can I buy Christmas garland?” has a thousand answers; and, once bought, these garlands can be interspersed into he hollows of wreaths made of vines, twigs, or willows to create an original work of art.

It always pays to visit the sales, so you can obtain several meters of ‘pre-strung greenery’ at a discount. Christmas garland can also be wound around pillars or banister rails for a pretty effect; you can have a sensational effect thorough weaving a combination of ribbons in muted earth colors such as clay, peach, the palest of pink and magnolia. Garland wreath Christmas decorations can replace the usual heavier type made of foliage; besides, they can be dressed up or down – with tiny bells, toys, holly berries… according to the room in which they are used.

Garlands and wreaths for use outside, however, must always be made of weatherproof materials, and securely attached to a doorway, building, or tree, to avoid the risk of accidents.
