Christmas Countdown
The term countdown to Christmas is usually associated with a rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral – or rather, the explosion that means it is finally airborne and on its way into the outer atmosphere; noises worthy of any Christmas countdown mp3 download.
The lift-off feeling that accompanies the countdown to Christmas, however, may lead to an anticlimax when we suddenly look at the table strewn with torn paper hats and plates full of leftovers (as usual, there was too much food), and we mutter the fateful words “Is that All there Is to Christmas?”

The Christmas countdown, if you are wise, will start on the day following Christmas, traditionally known as the feats of Stephen, which is mentioned in the carol about Good King Wenceslas. That is when you stock up on the non-perishable gifts and decorations for the year after, buy budgeting on the way to Christmas to have money to spend in the sales. It’s exactly the opposite of a vicious circle, really; no more shudders at the mere mention of ‘shopping days till Christmas’ countdown tactics.
There is another Carol, The Twelve Days of Christmas, which speaks of a different countdown to Christmas. But, unfortunately, this one too speaks of gifts and more gifts, rather as if that were the meaning of Christmas.
